September 16 to October 15 Non-Face-to-Face 'Mapo M Classic Festival' Held... Main Concert on 26th Featuring Pianist Im Donghyuk, Soprano Kathleen Kim, and Other Stars
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) Mapo Cultural Foundation is recruiting 100 online audience members to participate in the main concert of the 5th Mapo M Classic Festival, "Classical Music, Singing Hope," which will be held digitally from the 16th to October 15th.
The 5th Mapo M Classic Festival "Classical Music, Singing Hope" will be conducted in a digital contact format where residents can participate online, aiming to deliver a message of hope to residents exhausted by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The main concert, featuring Korea's leading classical stars such as pianist Lim Donghyuk, soprano Kathleen Kim, tenor Kim Hyunsoo, baritone Kim Jutaek, and the Millennium Symphony Orchestra (conductor Choi Youngsun), will be broadcast live on Naver TV at 7:30 PM on the 26th.
For this performance, the Mapo Cultural Foundation (CEO Song Jeyong) will set up a stage at the Mapo Art Center gymnasium with a giant 670-inch LED panel. Using cutting-edge technologies such as augmented reality (AR), the concert will vividly deliver performances including Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto, the opera "The Barber of Seville," and the opera "Romeo and Juliet" to audiences at home.
The highlight of the concert will be a non-face-to-face moving grand chorus performed together by the Mapo-gu residents' choir M Choir, consisting of about 100 members, and the performers, delivering a message of hope to residents weary from COVID-19.
This concert will be the first classical performance to feature 100 online audience members communicating through the screen in an audience participation format.
Online audience members will be connected in real-time via a video conferencing program and can watch the 100-minute performance online. Applications are accepted individually or as groups, and participants can join from a convenient location via PC or mobile device.
CEO Song Jeyong said, "The 100 online audience members participating in the main concert will actively engage in the performance and communicate in real-time through the video program. While Ontact is a passive concept, this performance aims for a more active concept called Digital Contact, creating a culture that can thrive even in difficult times for performances."
Applications for the main concert online audience are open until the 18th.
Detailed program information can be found on the Mapo Cultural Foundation website.
Meanwhile, the 5th Mapo M Classic Festival will film classical performance videos at six scenic spots in Mapo-gu, including Nanji Sky Park, World Cup Park, Sky Park, Hongdae Street, Gwangheungdang, and Mapo Art Center, and will broadcast these recordings online through SNS channels such as Mapo Cultural Foundation, Mapo Art Center, and Mapo TV.
Yudonggyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "Performances are created by artists and audiences becoming one. We hope many residents will show interest and participate in performances where artists and audiences can communicate through real-time screens."
