[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Gas Corporation announced on the 15th that it signed a "Business Agreement for the Promotion of Hub-type Hydrogen Production Base Construction Project" at Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall.

The event was attended by Cha Hee-bong, President of Korea Gas Corporation, Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, and about 10 officials from both organizations.

A medium-to-large scale hydrogen production base capable of producing more than 4 tons of hydrogen per day will be constructed using the natural gas supply network in regions where hydrogen demand is expected to increase.

Among 17 cities and provinces nationwide, Gwangju City and Changwon City in Gyeongsangnam-do were finally selected in May.

Through this agreement, the two organizations agreed to mutually cooperate in all areas including providing project sites, supporting permits and approvals, and timely hydrogen production and supply.

The hub-type hydrogen production base, scheduled to be completed in December 2022, will play a role in stably supplying hydrogen within 70 km of the Honam region centered on Gwangju City.

President Cha said, "Taking this agreement as an opportunity, we will work together with Gwangju City to promptly establish the hub-type hydrogen production base and lay the foundation for revitalizing the hydrogen economy in the Honam region."
