[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Amid the ongoing spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the world's first sterilized glass for construction will be applied in negative pressure wards.
According to the glass industry on the 13th, Winglass's world-first large-area sterilized glass for construction, 'Doctor Glass,' launched last May, will be fully applied to the negative pressure ward of the National Medical Center. The large-scale modular negative pressure ward construction at the National Medical Center, carried out by Kolon Global through its subsidiary Kolon Modular, is a 30-bed facility that began at the end of August and is scheduled for completion by the end of September.
The Doctor Glass applied to the National Medical Center's negative pressure ward is combined with Winglass's built-in blind window system, Winblind. Doctor Glass, integrated with Winblind, is expected to expand its application channels to various multi-use facilities, hospitals, and optional features in sale apartments due to the resurgence of COVID-19.
Doctor Glass is a sterilized glass that suppresses the growth of bacteria and viruses and sterilizes 99.9%, incorporating Winglass's nano-coating technology. Winglass holds large-area nano-coating technology (Patent No. 10-1544358) and material composition technology certified by NeT (Ministry of Environment No. 497) (Patent No. 10-1261204).
The key to Doctor Glass's antibacterial function is the nano-sized spraying of natural antibiotic silver (Ag). Although antibacterial glass has been developed and used in some facilities such as touchscreens and hospitals, Doctor Glass is the only large sterilized glass used for construction worldwide. The size of Doctor Glass reaches 7.4㎡.
Doctor Glass received test results from the global international certification body SGS and the Korea Standard Testing & Research Institute (KSTR) confirming 99.9% sterilization of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. According to the company, the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) also certified 99.9% sterilization of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, black Aspergillus, blue mold, soil actinomycetes, blue mold, and black yeast fungi.
A Winglass official stated, “As the number of domestic COVID-19 confirmed cases recently exceeds 100 daily, securing negative pressure rooms has become urgent, leading to active business entry by companies in related fields. As demand for negative pressure wards increases in the future, interest in sterilized glass will also rise. Therefore, we will strengthen our sales efforts to expand the application of Doctor Glass not only for profitability but also for social contribution.”
