Incheon Education Disaster Relief Fund: 100,000 Won Per Person in Cash and In-Kind Support Combined Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] All elementary, middle, and high school students in Incheon will receive an education disaster relief fund of 100,000 KRW per person, combining cash and in-kind support.

Incheon City and the City Office of Education announced on the 13th that they will share equally about 31 billion KRW of unused free meal expenses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, providing 100,000 KRW per student to 310,000 elementary, middle, and high school students as education disaster relief funds.

Through recent consultations, both parties finalized the ratio of cash to in-kind support for the education disaster relief fund at 5 to 5.

The 50,000 KRW cash portion will be provided as local currency credit on the 'Incheon e-eum' card, and the remaining 50,000 KRW can be used to purchase food ingredients at the 'Kkureomi Mall' to be established on the Incheon e-mall platform.

The City Office of Education will oversee the cash support, while the city will manage the in-kind support project. The selection of vendors, product composition, exchanges, and returns related to in-kind payments will be handled by the Incheon e-eum operating agency.

The City Office of Education plans to expedite the payment of the education disaster relief fund once the third supplementary budget is approved at the 2nd plenary session of the Incheon City Council on the 18th, and is currently guiding parents on the education disaster relief fund project and the issuance procedures for the Incheon e-eum card.

Do Seonghun, Superintendent of Incheon Education, stated, "This is the result of gathering parents' opinions and the community's joint efforts to provide support aligned with the purpose of free meals," adding, "We will promptly implement the education disaster relief fund to help families struggling due to COVID-19 even a little."
