Establishment of Joint Cooperation System in the Defense Sector

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] The Small and Medium Business Technology Information Promotion Agency announced on the 10th that it will promote a joint cooperation system with the Air Force to support technology development and commercialization for small and medium venture companies in the defense sector.

The basic direction of this cooperation system is to open the experimental environment owned by the Air Force to small and medium venture companies, and to lead to commercialization and public procurement through the discovery and support of technology development projects.

The Air Force provides experimental environments related to the 4th Industrial Revolution, such as air operations, aircraft maintenance, base defense, and operational support. Small and medium venture companies can utilize this to derive new technology development tasks. Securing practical data for commercialization also enables securing reliability for developed products.

Since signing a business agreement with the Air Force in May to strengthen the technological capabilities of small and medium enterprises and the 4th Industrial Revolution in the defense sector, the agency plans to support a total of six technology development projects discovered through collaboration within this year through a purchase-conditional new product development project. In the future, various projects will be discovered to make cooperation with the Air Force an excellent case of public innovation procurement.

Lee Jaehong, director of the agency, said, "I am pleased that an opportunity has been created to activate cooperative technology development of small and medium enterprises and to produce results through linkage with public procurement by exchanging and cooperating with the Air Force pursuing smart defense amid the difficult economic activities of small and medium enterprises due to COVID-19."
