Gwangyang City Provides Emergency Support for Promotional Marketing Expenses to Local Travel Agencies

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Emergency support for promotional marketing expenses will be provided to local travel agencies experiencing severe management crises due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

Gwangyang City announced that, together with Jeonnam Province, it will support travel agencies struggling from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and its resurgence with promotional marketing expenses of up to 3 million KRW.

The support targets travel agencies registered in Gwangyang as of the end of June this year, based on Articles 3 and 4 of the 「Tourism Promotion Act」, and if the same representative operates multiple agencies in the same industry, support will be provided to only one agency.

The support covers online sectors such as website and SNS production, promotion, and advertising costs, as well as offline sectors including newspapers, magazines, banners, banners, flyers, souvenir production, and product sales marketing expenses. Facility projects such as signboard production and installation are excluded.

As a result of a preliminary demand survey conducted in July targeting the relevant agencies, 28 out of 33 agencies responded positively to the promotional marketing expense support, and applications will be accepted until the 18th.

The project funds will be provided in an advance payment and post-settlement method, and the selected agencies must submit supporting documents related to the expenditure of the project funds by the end of the year.

The city recently received approval from the city council for a ‘pre-establishment budget’ (a budget prepared to be used in advance before the supplementary budget is established after budget formulation) and decided to execute the funds urgently.

Lee Hwa-yeop, Director of the Tourism Division, said, “The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has deeply worsened the recession in the tourism industry,” and added, “We hope this support project will be of some help to the travel industry and serve as a catalyst for devising new promotional strategies in the COVID era.”

Meanwhile, Gwangyang City is making continuous efforts to establish a foundation for regional tourism where tourism operators, tourism-related businesses and organizations, civic groups, and citizens communicate and coexist together, including the establishment of a regional tourism council and the construction of the Gwangyang City Tourism Collaboration Center.
