Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Participates in International Joint Artificial Sun Project for 'Dream Energy'

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is participating in the international joint artificial sun project, known as the "dream energy."


On the 9th, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced that its UK subsidiary Doosan Babcock, as part of a consortium, signed a contract to supply the pressurizer with the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) international organization.


ITER is an international joint project to create an "artificial sun," a safe and clean future energy source on Earth, using nuclear fusion, the energy production principle of the sun. To demonstrate the feasibility of large-scale nuclear fusion energy production, seven countries including Korea are jointly developing, constructing, and operating the project. ITER is scheduled to be completed in 2025 in the Cadarache region of France and operated until 2042.


Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction secured the contract through an international competitive bidding process. The company will design and manufacture the pressurizer, which maintains pressure and provides overpressure protection for the heat exchange system installed in ITER, using its own technology and supply it by 2022.


Nagiyong, Vice President of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, said, "Through this contract, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction's design and manufacturing capabilities for power generation facilities have been globally recognized once again," adding, "We will strive to contribute to the commercialization of nuclear fusion."
