[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT is conducting a Toss cash payment event for customers of the video call app ‘Narle,’ whose usage has significantly increased due to the resurgence of COVID-19.
KT announced on the 9th that for two months starting from the 10th, new ‘Narle’ subscribers and customers who refer friends will receive up to 22,000 KRW in cash through the Toss app. New subscribers will receive 2,000 KRW, and customers who successfully invite friends will receive up to 20,000 KRW (1,000 KRW per person, up to 20 people).
‘Narle’ can be downloaded and used from the App Store and Google Play. New members can receive 2,000 KRW by signing up for Narle and verifying through the Toss app. Upon first sign-up, users can enter the event code (2000) or the referrer’s phone number. For friend referrals, when the invited friend enters the inviter’s phone number and signs up, 1,000 KRW is automatically credited. Friend referrals are allowed up to 20 people.
‘Narle’ is a video call app utilizing 3D avatars and AR emoticons, offering group video calls for up to eight participants. Users can enjoy various content such as Mafia games, drawing quizzes, and “Shout in the Silence,” as well as watch YouTube videos together and share screens during video calls. Lee Sung-hwan, Head of KT’s 5G/GiGA Business Division (Executive Director), said, “Narle, which supports multi-party video calls, is quickly establishing itself as a new communication tool in the untact era. We will continue to develop the service so that Narle can become a cultural space where users can share and enjoy various content beyond communication.”
Meanwhile, KT’s ‘Narle’ users have increased more than threefold on average per month compared to before COVID-19. In particular, the number of users in August, when the spread of COVID-19 began to rise again, increased by more than 80% compared to the previous month.
