[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Hanwha Techwin announced on the 9th that it has obtained the UL CAP (Cybersecurity Assurance Program) certification, an international cybersecurity safety standard, for its latest network security camera, Wisenet7.
UL CAP evaluates potential cybersecurity issues such as software security vulnerabilities and hacking threats in network-connected products and systems. Since it comprehensively assesses not only the product but also the related software development processes and risk management capabilities, only a very small number of companies in the industry have received this certification.
Wisenet7 is a product embedded with various security solutions that can safely protect cameras and video data at all stages from product design to production and actual use. Hanwha Techwin explained that it met all of UL's rigorous evaluation criteria, including penetration testing, access control and user authentication, encryption, and software updates, to obtain this certification.
As the distribution of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, including network security cameras, expands, the importance of cybersecurity is continuously emphasized worldwide. Hanwha Techwin expects that obtaining the UL CAP certification will serve as an opportunity to reaffirm its cybersecurity-related technological capabilities in overseas markets.
Since it evaluates the entire system related to cybersecurity, it is also expected to help comply with security-related policies of various countries that have recently become issues, such as the European Union (EU)'s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For example, in major overseas markets such as the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, government and institutional projects often require UL CAP certification as a mandatory condition for bidding. Hanwha Techwin also explained that the same applies to security-sensitive private sectors such as research institutes and banks.
A Hanwha Techwin official said, “Through UL CAP certification, we can more actively promote one of Hanwha Techwin’s strengths, cybersecurity functions,” and added, “We will provide world-class cybersecurity functions so that customers can use future products with confidence.”
