[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Five members of the girl group Girls' Generation have renewed their contracts with SM Entertainment.
On the 8th, SM Entertainment stated in an official announcement, "We have renewed contracts with Girls' Generation's Taeyeon, Yoona, Yuri, Hyoyeon, and Sunny," adding, "We will continue to support the members so they can actively engage in various fields."
They had previously renewed their contracts with SM in 2017. At that time, Sooyoung, Tiffany, and Seohyun left the agency after their contracts expired.
The members who renewed their contracts?Taeyeon, Yoona, Yuri, Hyoyeon, and Sunny?also promoted as the project group Girls' Generation-Oh!GG in 2018.
Yoona and Yuri plan to pursue acting careers. Yoona has confirmed her appearance in JTBC's new drama "Hush" (working title), and Yuri is considering a role in the new drama "Bossam: Steal the Fate."
Hyoyeon released her new single "DESSERT" last July, and Taeyeon released her new single "Happy" last May, continuing their music activities. Sunny has appeared on variety shows such as MBC's "Save Me, Holmes."
Meanwhile, Girls' Generation, who debuted in 2007 and are celebrating their 14th anniversary this year, attracted attention by sharing a full-group photo in August to celebrate their 13th anniversary. They have left behind numerous hit songs including "Into the New World," "Gee," "Hoot," "Tell Me Your Wish," and "Oh!".
