Jeju 'Bichui Bunker: Van Gogh' Exhibition Period Extended... Until February 28 Next Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] The exhibition period of the media art "Bunker of Light: Van Gogh," currently held in Jeju Island, has been extended until February 28 next year.

"Bunker of Light: Van Gogh" is an exhibition that reinterprets the representative works of "Vincent Van Gogh," the most beloved painter among Koreans. Through the walls and floor of the Bunker of Light, visitors can vividly experience Van Gogh's bold brushstrokes and brilliant colors. The exhibition showcases a variety of works including Van Gogh's representative pieces emphasizing rich colors and rough, intense expressions, as well as his early works, landscapes, night scenes, self-portraits, and still lifes. Van Gogh's paintings and drawings are reborn as media art works and are projected.

The Bunker of Light, which transformed an old national communication facility bunker into a cultural space, is gaining attention as a cultural and artistic landmark of Jeju by popularizing a new immersive media art experience. Located in Seongsan, Jeju, the Bunker of Light is designed with a structure that enhances spatial depth, covering an area of 900 pyeong (approximately half the size of a soccer field), with a width of 100m, length of 50m, height of 10m, and an interior height of 5.5m. Additionally, the Bunker of Light maintains a comfortable temperature of 16 degrees Celsius year-round for visitors to enjoy the exhibition.

The Bunker of Light presents new exhibitions every year with different themes. Last year, 560,000 people visited the opening exhibition featuring Klimt, and this Van Gogh exhibition is the second exhibition presented by the Bunker of Light.

Visitors must wear masks and undergo a temperature check before entering the Bunker of Light. Staff members guide visitors to maintain a certain distance from each other while viewing the exhibition.
