Recovery of Public Institution Revenue to 31.76 Billion Won Through Reports

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] On the 8th, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission announced that it paid a total of 1.65013 billion KRW in rewards to 15 whistleblowers who reported corruption and public interest violations, including unpaid student loans at public institutions and bid rigging in railway construction projects. The amount recovered by public institutions as a result of their reports exceeded 31.76 billion KRW.
For example, one whistleblower who reported that a public corporation provided interest-free student loans to employees and that, although the related fund corporation was supposed to repay the loans on their behalf according to labor-management agreements, the repayment was not made causing budget losses, received a reward of 763.82 million KRW.
Another whistleblower who reported companies and public officials involved in embezzling subsidies intended to support corporate relocation to provincial areas by falsifying credit evaluation reports and other related documents was awarded 437.29 million KRW.
A whistleblower who reported a company that fabricated documents to falsely claim research and development expenses by pretending to have purchased actual goods while conducting government R&D projects received a reward of 95.09 million KRW.
One who reported companies colluding in bids related to railway construction projects was given 310 million KRW, and another who reported hospitals and clinics operating multiple medical institutions and conducting unlicensed medical practices was awarded 14.32 million KRW.
Han Samseok, Director of the Review and Protection Bureau at the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, stated, "We will actively provide rewards and other benefits to whistleblowers to enhance transparency across public service and society at large and to encourage active reporting."
