Trump Launches Fierce Attack Linking China and Biden on Labor Day

Biden Says, "I Am Not Afraid of the Word Union"

[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Baek Jong-min] On the 7th (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned imposing high tariffs and decoupling from China, stating his intention to cut dependence on China. Although interpreted as remarks targeting the working class on Labor Day, it draws attention as an escalation of pressure on China.

President Trump held an unscheduled briefing that day, saying, "Labor Day is a good time to talk about what we have suffered from China. There has never been any country that has exploited us (the U.S.) like China has."

President Trump claimed, "They used stupid people, and Biden is a stupid person," linking China with Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and launching a fierce attack. Trump has continuously asserted that Biden is on China's side.

He continued, "They (China) are building a strong military. I was very lucky to strengthen our military power. Otherwise, by now, China would have overtaken us, and that would be terrible."

He added, "We are far ahead on the nuclear capability front. We have strengthened our nuclear capabilities, hoping never to have to use them," and said, "But China is using the money we gave them to strengthen their military. Therefore, 'decouple' is an interesting word."

President Trump stated, "If we don't do business with them, we won't lose billions of dollars, and that's called decoupling," and claimed, "They take our money and use it to build aircraft, ships, rockets, and missiles. And Biden has been their puppet."

Referring to the November election as the most important in U.S. history, Trump emphasized, "Under my administration, we will make America the superpower of global manufacturing. Whether through decoupling or imposing huge tariffs, we will completely cut dependence on China."

These remarks are notable as they suggest the possibility of intensifying pressure on China to the highest level, including decoupling, if he wins re-election. He has often mentioned the possibility of decoupling from China in interviews and briefings. Tariff imposition has already been used several times as a means of pressuring China.

In the briefing, President Trump also mentioned, "Whether friend or foe, every country has exploited our country, and honestly, it's unbelievable."

On the other hand, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden focused on conveying the message that he will stand with the workers.

Through a video message, Biden said, "I will be the strongest pro-worker president you have ever seen," and claimed, "I have never been afraid to say the word 'union.' When I become the owner of the White House, you will hear the word 'union' more often." This is interpreted as a promise to pursue pro-union policies if elected.
