[Asia Economy Reporter Jihee Kim] Volkswagen unveiled the interior of its brand's first pure electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), the ID. 4, on the 7th. The interior of the spacious ID. 4 evokes a modern yet comfortable lounge. It features a simple yet sophisticated design, lighting effects, and the use of sustainable materials.

The ID. 4 offers ample space compared to existing Volkswagen SUVs in the same class, thanks to the compact electric drivetrain of Volkswagen's dedicated electric vehicle platform, the MEB platform. Klaus Zyciora, Head of Design at Volkswagen Group, described the design of the ID.4 as "an exterior embodying freedom and a spacious interior," explaining that "the ID. 4, built on the MEB platform, boasts interior space and versatility unimaginable in previous models of the same class."

The ID.4 door handles are flush with the body and equipped with an electric unlocking function. It also features wide doors for easy entry and a high seating position. The trunk offers a capacity of 543 liters without folding the rear seats.

Like the exterior design, the interior focuses on lightweight construction and elegance. The dash panel is separated from the center console, which is designed as an independent component, giving a floating impression. At night, the ambient lighting can be set within a spectrum of 30 colors.

Located below the windshield, the light strip called ID. Light is Volkswagen's advanced technology applied to all ID. series models. It supports driver safety and convenience with intuitive lighting effects in various colors. Additionally, the ID.4 light works in conjunction with navigation to recommend lane changes or alert the driver if they are in the wrong lane, helping ensure safe and smooth driving.

The front seats of the ID.4 are sporty yet comfortable. The seats applied to the ID.4 First Max limited edition model, to be launched in Germany, are certified by the German Spine Health Association (AGR) and come with various electric adjustment options and massage functions. The seats of the two limited edition ID.4 models use animal-free materials. They are eco-friendly, combining microfiber (ultrafine synthetic fiber) artificial leather made from about 20% recycled PET bottles with ArtVelours.

The interiors of the ID.4 First and ID.4 First Max limited edition models feature calm and sophisticated colors such as Platinum Gray and Florence Brown. The steering wheel, steering column, display housing, and door control panels are finished in trendy piano black and pure electric white colors. The bright colors emphasize a futuristic image throughout the vehicle's interior.

As part of the Transform 2025+ strategy, Volkswagen plans to invest 11 billion euros in electric vehicles by 2024. The Volkswagen SUV ID.4, the brand's first model powered solely by electricity, is the second model produced in the ID. series after the ID.3. The ID.4 is scheduled for its global premiere around the end of September 2020.
