Geumcheon-gu Doksan-dong Malmisa Intersection Plaza 'Moving Park' Creation

Creating a Photo Garden Up-Cycling Old Cars with Flowers and Trees

Geumcheon-gu Doksan-dong Malmisa Intersection Plaza 'Moving Park' Creation

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yuseonghun) opened a moving park to residents on the 2nd at Malmisa Intersection Plaza in Doksan-dong.

Through the '2020 Moving Park Creation Project,' the district upcycled discarded cars into a photo garden abundant with flowers and trees, and created shade trees and flower beds at Malmisa Intersection Plaza using mobile planters.

The district painted the discarded cars yellow, symbolizing Geumcheon-gu's golden hope, and planted red-toned flowering trees on the car roofs, trunks, and hoods. This expresses the will filled with golden hope and passion to all Geumcheon-gu residents, carrying the meaning of walking only on flower paths in the future.

Additionally, Malmisa Intersection Plaza, located where Siheung-daero and Doksan-dong Usijang meet, is a place with heavy foot traffic. The district expects to provide a resting space for users and improve the landscape at the entrance of Usijang.

Meanwhile, 'Up-Cycling,' which utilizes discarded cars as landscaping materials to breathe new life into them, goes beyond recycling discarded products by adding design to create new value. The district plans to promote this as a project to create various spaces that offer new enjoyment and memories to users.

Also, the 'Moving Park' uses mobile planters, allowing it to be moved anywhere in the city where resting spaces are needed, providing the advantage of flexible use as necessary.

Mayor Yuseonghun stated, "As eco-friendly projects are becoming a global trend and Korea is policy-wise promoting the Green New Deal, the moving park will be a new attempt," adding, "I want to offer a space for healing and rest, even if briefly, to residents feeling fatigue due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic."
