KETI-Siheung City Collaborate to Establish Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Data Center

Establishing a Big Data Platform for Electric Vehicle Parts by 2024
"Supporting Digital Innovation of Manufacturing Companies with Industrial Data for Electric Vehicles"

KETI-Siheung City Collaborate to Establish Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Data Center

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) and Siheung City announced on the 3rd that they have signed a business agreement to establish and operate a data center for electric vehicle manufacturing.

Through this agreement, KETI and Siheung City plan to build an "Electric Vehicle Parts Big Data Platform" by 2024.

The platform will integrate driving data and parts data generated during electric vehicle operation to be used for the production, management, and operation of electric vehicle parts.

KETI will support automotive parts companies in ▲transitioning their production items to electric vehicle parts, ▲improving the performance and quality of electric vehicle parts, and ▲applying smart factories. To this end, it will secure and provide data on key electric vehicle components such as batteries and drive motors.

Siheung City will support the discovery of demand from related companies and provide project funds necessary for the construction and operation of the data center.

Kim Young-sam, President of KETI, said, "The agreement is significant in proactively establishing an electric vehicle manufacturing data center in Siheung, a representative industrial city in Korea, to support data-driven digital innovation in traditional industries. We will respond to the Korean New Deal policy and industrial intelligence strategies promoted by the government through the smooth establishment and effective operation of the data center."

The project is being promoted through the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's industrial innovation infrastructure construction project. The lead institution is KETI, and the local government is Siheung City.

Participating institutions include 12 organizations such as KST Mobility, Korea Testing Laboratory, Inzi Controls, Seoul National University, and Korea Industrial Complex Corporation.

Utilizing organizations include 36 companies such as LG Chem, SK Innovation, and Hanon Systems.

KETI has been leading the development of technologies applying artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and big data-based technologies including visual intelligence to industrial data generated in power plants, shipbuilding, and automotive industries.

Siheung City is an industrial city centered on companies, hosting industrial complexes such as Siheung Smart Hub, the nation's first industrial complex, Siwha MTV (Multi Techno Valley), and Maehwa Industrial Complex. Besides industrial complexes, there are numerous manufacturing companies.

As of June 30, Siheung City houses 10,628 companies. They are distributed as 83.8% in Siheung Smart Hub, 7.9% in Siwha MTV, and 8.3% in others.
