'Bujagu' Gangnam Residents Also Different?... 15,767 Gangnam Households Donate 8 Billion KRW in Government Emergency Disaster Relief Funds


[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) revealed that among the 138.2 billion KRW in government emergency disaster relief funds distributed to 210,000 households in the area since May, 15,767 Gangnam residents chose to donate, amounting to 8 billion KRW.


According to Gangnam-gu, as of the 24th of last month, emergency disaster relief funds were distributed to 217,781 households out of a total of 229,770 households, and the donation amount from the 15,767 households that chose to donate was recorded at 7.979 billion KRW.


The emergency disaster relief donations are divided into ‘solicited donations,’ which are voluntarily donated after receiving the support funds, and ‘presumed donations,’ which are considered donated if not applied for within the period. Gangnam-gu’s solicited donations (3,778 cases) amounted to 1.098 billion KRW, ranking first among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul. Presumed donations (11,989 cases) totaled 6.881 billion KRW.


The donations will be incorporated into the Employment Insurance Fund and used for maintaining employment and creating jobs for Gangnam residents struggling due to COVID-19.


Jeong Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, “Although this is a difficult time for everyone due to COVID-19, I thank the residents who donated with the ‘Mimiwi spirit’ of sharing, caring, and respecting each other,” adding, “‘A dignified Gangnam’ is only complete when residents are respected.”
