[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] On the 1st, Heo Eun-ah, a member of the United Future Party, criticized Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who claimed ownership of the new party name 'People Power' decided by the United Future Party, saying, "It's not like an ex-lover is being tyrannical because the other person is seeing someone else; it's petty."

Heo appeared on YTN Radio's 'Start New Morning' on the same day and said, "The people are disappointed with the Democratic Party of Korea, which holds a massive 176 seats, and the reason they feel this way is precisely because of such arrogance."

Earlier, on the 31st of last month, Jeong Cheong-rae strongly criticized the newly decided party name 'People Power' of the United Future Party, saying, "The civic group 'People's Power,' a living political network, was launched by me and many members in 2003," calling it a "clear case of name theft."

Regarding Jeong Cheong-rae's claim of ownership, Heo said, "Claiming ownership now with the unreasonable argument that the word 'People' and the name 'People Power' were used 17 years ago is childish and arrogant," adding, "I hope the dignity of politics is maintained. I want to give a word of advice from a senior lawmaker to a first-term lawmaker."

She further explained, "The word 'People' is the most fundamental word politically," and "It represents how desperate our party is in opposing the tyranny of the ruling party."

In response to the criticism that the name is similar to that of the People's Party, she said, "During the party name contest, about 3,300 proposals, accounting for 20%, included the keyword 'People,'" and added, "The naming process for a party name intended to last 100 years was not simply focused on the merger."

Regarding the recently announced party platform, she said, "It includes various things such as Korean-style basic income, educational equality, expansion of housing supply, and deregulation of finance," and added, "Although differences of opinion and concerns among lawmakers surfaced during the party meeting, constructive and progressive discussions are ongoing."

She continued, "Based on these discussions, I think it is important to show the public how we realize the values of the party platform."
