The Return of the Luxury SUV... Launch of the 'All New Defender 110'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Jaguar Land Rover Korea announced on the 1st that it will launch the ‘All New Defender’ 110 model for the first time in Korea. With this, Land Rover has solidified its position as a premium luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) brand by completing the lineup with Range Rover, Discovery, and All New Defender.

The All New Defender reimagines the original Defender’s robust yet sophisticated and distinctive design, emphasizing outstanding durability, refinement, and ultimate toughness. Its high body and short front and rear overhangs provide excellent approach and departure angles, enabling exceptional performance on any rough terrain.

The interior features a design that emphasizes simplicity and durability, with sturdy finishing materials and practical convenience for everyday use. A standout feature is the ‘magnesium alloy cross car beam’ that spans the front center fascia, boldly exposing structural and mounting elements that are usually hidden, creating a striking interior.

The All New Defender 110 model offers a spacious and comfortable interior for all passengers with a long wheelbase of 3022mm. The second-row legroom boasts an impressive 992mm, nearly 1 meter, and the 40:20:40 split folding seats allow for more efficient space utilization. Additionally, it provides 1075 liters of cargo space, which can be expanded up to 2380 liters when the second row is folded down.

The Ingenium 2.0-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine delivers a powerful output of 240 horsepower while ensuring fuel efficiency, and its aluminum low-friction engine design effectively reduces vibrations. Land Rover developed a new aluminum D7x platform exclusively for the All New Defender. The lightweight aluminum monocoque structure of the D7x architecture offers the highest torsional rigidity of 29,000Nm/° and is the most robust Land Rover body ever built, being three times stronger than traditional body-on-frame designs. The sturdy monocoque body structure of the All New Defender can withstand a snatch load of 6.5 tons and provides a perfect foundation for the two-speed transfer box and fully independent suspension.

The four-corner air suspension raises the ground clearance from 218mm up to 75mm higher in off-road conditions, and can extend an additional 70mm for more extreme off-road situations, with a maximum wading depth of 900mm.

The All New Defender features a fully automatic Terrain Response system with selectable driving modes including Comfort, Eco, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock, helping it perform optimally in any environment. Notably, the All New Defender is the first Land Rover model to include a wading program in its fully automatic Terrain Response system. It has a maximum towing capacity of 3,000kg and offers a roof load capacity of up to 168kg while driving, making it suitable for camping trips as well as transporting construction materials. Additionally, the roof load capacity increases to 300kg when stationary, allowing for the installation of rooftop tents and more.

The All New Defender Pivi Pro comes equipped with a factory-installed T-map navigation system developed jointly with SK Telecom, enabling T-map use without the need for a separate smartphone connection. It also supports various advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) through six cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and four radars.

Furthermore, it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality that stops the vehicle when the car ahead halts, a lane-keeping assist system that uses steering intervention to keep the vehicle within its lane if it begins to drift, occupant exit monitoring, and rear traffic/collision detection features, all contributing to convenient and safe driving.

Baek Jeong-hyun, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover Korea, stated, “Land Rover has begun writing a new chapter in SUV history beyond the past with the All New Defender, an icon of the era embodying over 70 years of brand heritage.” He added, “The All New Defender, a modern reinterpretation of the original Defender, armed with overwhelming driving performance and innovative technology, will satisfy diverse lifestyles never experienced before while delivering amazement.”

The All New Defender 110 model is available in three trims, with prices including a 5-year service plan package as follows: D240 S trim at 85.9 million KRW, D240 SE at 95.6 million KRW, and D240 Launch Edition at 91.8 million KRW. (Prices reflect reduced individual consumption tax)
