[Asia Economy (Yangju) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has postponed the pilot operation of the 'Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Safety Education Center,' the first comprehensive safety experience facility in the province, due to the spread of COVID-19.
The Gyeonggi Office of Education originally planned to pilot operate the center on the 1st of this month but decided to delay the operation timing depending on the COVID-19 situation. They announced on the 1st that an online opening ceremony is being prepared.
The Safety Education Center is located on a 16,574㎡ site within the Yangju-si Gwangjeok-myeon Sports Park. With a total project cost of 26.1 billion KRW, it has a total floor area of 7,616㎡ and is a three-story building above ground. Construction began in January last year and was completed in June this year.
Since then, the Gyeonggi Office of Education has been preparing for safety experience education by supplementing experiential materials and conducting training to strengthen the capabilities of education instructors for two months.
Jo Seong-rae, Director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Safety Education Center, emphasized, "The Safety Education Center has the latest facilities and sufficient capabilities to operate safety experience education," adding, "We will build a cooperative network for collaboration and support with related organizations to create a safe culture together."
On the 21st of last month, the Safety Education Center signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Elevator Safety Corporation, and on the 1st of this month with the Yangju Fire Station, to share safety education-related infrastructure and establish a safety culture together with the local community.
