Youth Coding Talent Development 'Nexon Story' Nexon '2019 NYPC' Tournament Scene

[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] As the importance of coding grows in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, Nexon has expanded its investment in nurturing young coding talents.

According to the gaming industry on the 31st, Nexon has been hosting the annual youth coding competition 'NYPC' since 2016 to provide young people with opportunities to experience coding. NYPC was created to lower the barrier to coding experience by utilizing Nexon's games familiar to youth. What differentiates the problems presented in NYPC from those in general coding competitions is that they use content from popular games serviced by Nexon or apply scenarios that can be encountered in actual game development or service situations. Last year, NYPC attracted significant attention by presenting programming problems based on content from Nexon's PC game 'MapleStory.' Starting with about 2,500 participants in the first competition in 2016, more than 4,500 participants have joined annually since 2017, bringing the total number of participants to over 17,000 to date.

Since 2017, Nexon has also been conducting a mentoring program called 'NYPC Talk Concert.' Through this, experts active in various fields share their personal experiences and use cases related to coding, providing sincere advice to young people aspiring to become programmers. Recently, the NYPC 2020 Talk Concert held online featured Kim Sung-min, CEO of Aquise, Seo Ji-hye, Amazon Web Services Specialist, and Kim Dae-hwon, Vice President of Nexon, who shared their coding experiences and technologies applied in specialized fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and big data.

Furthermore, Nexon continues to support various coding education programs and platforms to expand the base of coding and programming. Last month, the Nexon Foundation announced plans to carry out the 'Noble Engineering' education project, a convergent education method that improves coding skills by solving problems faced by protagonists in books through coding. Nexon also officially sponsored the international computational thinking competition 'Korea Beaver Challenge 2018,' investing in infrastructure systems and leading efforts to raise awareness of the competition. Kim Jung-wook, Chairman of the Nexon Foundation, said, "As the importance of technology fields related to the 4th Industrial Revolution increases, opportunities for young people to understand coding more easily and develop a proper perception must increase. Nexon will continue to provide extensive support and investment so that coding can be recognized as an enjoyable logical tool for youth by utilizing the long-standing know-how accumulated so far."
