[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Hee-eun Park] Even while on trial for mediating prostitution, a business owner was sentenced to prison again for mediating prostitution.

On the 29th, Jeon Ki-heung, Chief Judge of Criminal Division 6 at Ulsan District Court, announced that he sentenced A (49), who was prosecuted for violating the Act on the Punishment of Acts of Arranging Sexual Traffic, to prison and ordered the confiscation of 122.6 million won.

The court stated, "The defendant illegally employed foreign women without residence status to operate prostitution mediation businesses, which is a serious offense. Furthermore, the defendant continued the business during the trial, making condemnation inevitable, so a prison sentence is unavoidable."

Earlier, A was indicted for mediating prostitution to male clients recruited through internet advertisements from November 2017 to August 2018. It was confirmed that he operated prostitution businesses by employing foreign female workers.

While on trial for this crime, from January to April 2020, A was caught again operating the same business using the same method and was additionally indicted.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that A employed five women of Kazakhstani and Russian nationality who were not allowed to work in Korea for prostitution business purposes.
