[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Kang Seon-woo, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, reported assets of approximately -490 million KRW, but it was revealed that he owns a complex building worth about 1.5 billion KRW and that he and his spouse each own a Mercedes-Benz and a BMW vehicle.
According to the asset declaration of newly registered members of the 21st National Assembly disclosed by the National Assembly Public Officials Ethics Committee on the 28th, Kang reported assets of -488 million KRW. His debt amounts to 2.5 billion KRW, of which about 1.45 billion KRW is financial debt excluding building rental debt.
Regarding real estate, he and his spouse share equal ownership of a complex building (residential + commercial) located in Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, valued at about 1.5 billion KRW.
For vehicles, he declared ownership of a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C220 d Coupe with an engine displacement of 2143cc. The actual transaction price is 57.42 million KRW. His spouse owns a 2016 BMW X5 xDrive30d with an engine displacement of 2993cc, with an actual transaction price of 51 million KRW. However, Kang’s office stated, "The Mercedes-Benz vehicle was disposed of after the declaration reference date at the end of May, and currently, the office is using a leased vehicle."
Kang graduated from Ewha Womans University with a degree in English Education, earned a master's degree in Consumer Human Development from the same university’s graduate school, and obtained a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Wisconsin. He served as an assistant professor at South Dakota State University and an adjunct professor at Sungkyunkwan University before being elected as a member of the National Assembly for the Gangseo-gap district of Seoul in the general election last April.
