[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] KOTRA held the 'Korea-China Future Car Online Forum' on the 27th in Beijing, China, in collaboration with China EV100 on the 28th. KOTRA created a platform for cooperation between the two countries in line with the rapid shift from internal combustion engine vehicles to future cars.


At this forum, KOTRA shared the current status of the future car industry and technology between Korea and China and explored business cooperation opportunities. A total of 113 businesspeople from both countries participated online, showing interest in the future car industry. The Korea Automotive Technology Institute and the China Automotive Technology and Research Center reviewed the trends in the future car industry in each country. SK Innovation and PNE Solution disclosed their business plans in China.


At the center of recent changes in the Chinese automotive industry trends is new energy vehicles. Sales of Chinese new energy vehicles, including electric vehicles, surged from 600,000 units in 2017 to 1.05 million units in 2018. According to China Industry Information, sales are expected to reach 2.01 million units this year.


Park Han-jin, head of KOTRA's China Regional Headquarters, stated, "Through the online forum, we identified cooperation demands for future cars between Korea and China and sought win-win strategies," adding, "We will spare no effort to support our future car companies to enter the Chinese market more extensively."
