Utilization of LG Inhwa Garden Facility Located in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] LG will provide its group training center, ‘LG Inhwa-won,’ as a residential treatment center for asymptomatic patients of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
LG announced on the 27th that it decided to do so to help resolve the shortage of hospital beds in the metropolitan area due to the resurgence of COVID-19. The LG Inhwa-won located in Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, which is being provided this time, has about 300 rooms, including studio-type rooms equipped with bathrooms.
The facility will be used as a residential treatment center where asymptomatic patients who do not require negative pressure rooms or dedicated infectious disease facilities can receive treatment while being isolated, through consultations with government authorities and local governments.
This decision by LG follows its provision of dormitories in the Gyeongbuk region as residential treatment centers last March and aims to support the current critical shortage of facilities where more than 80% of confirmed patients in the metropolitan area, who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, can live and receive treatment.
The company expects this to help provide prompt and efficient treatment in a situation where more than 90% of confirmed patients in Gyeonggi-do have no hospital beds available and must wait at home.
Previously, facilities in the Gyeongbuk region, including LG Display dormitories, were operated as residential treatment centers for 45 days starting last March, treating about 400 patients.
LG donated 5 billion KRW to the Community Chest of Korea to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and support damage relief. In addition, LG Electronics provided 2,000 electronic masks developed by the company, 10,000 medical protective suits, 2,000 protective goggles, and 100,000 medical masks to frontline medical staff and hospitals.
LG Electronics also supported health care home appliances such as dryers to quickly dry frequently washed medical gowns and surgical clothes for immediate use, and LG Household & Health Care provided bottled water, toiletries, and disinfectant products. Following March, in July as well, the headquarters supported 50% of one month’s rent for cosmetics franchise stores struggling with operations due to the spread of COVID-19.
LG Uplus donated 10,000 educational smart pads to support online education for elementary, middle, and high school students nationwide. For the performing arts sector, which has lost audiences, LG Uplus produces videos of Daehangno plays and musicals and provides them via IPTV and mobile apps.
