Chonnam National University Hospital Achieves 'Grade 1' for Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery 5 Consecutive Times


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam National University Hospital (Director Lee Sam-yong) announced on the 27th that it received the highest grade for the 5th consecutive time in the appropriateness evaluation of coronary artery bypass graft surgery.


The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) conducted the 6th appropriateness evaluation of coronary artery bypass graft surgery on 81 medical institutions nationwide that performed the surgery from July 2018 to June 2019.


As a result, Jeonnam National University Hospital scored 97.81 points overall, which was significantly higher than the national average (94.16), earning the highest grade.


With this, Jeonnam National University Hospital has achieved the top grade for 5 consecutive times in the 6 appropriateness evaluations conducted since 2010, once again proving its status as the best in the country in the field of cardiac surgery.


Coronary artery bypass graft surgery is a procedure that creates a new blood vessel bypassing the blocked part of the coronary artery by using arteries or veins from other parts of the body when patients have ischemic heart diseases such as acute myocardial infarction or angina.


This evaluation covered a total of 14 assessment indicators, including the total number of coronary artery bypass graft surgeries, the rate of coronary artery bypass graft surgery using the internal thoracic artery, aspirin prescription rate at discharge, survival index, and mortality rate within 30 days after surgery.


Jeonnam National University Hospital received high scores across all categories in this evaluation, particularly achieving a perfect score of 100 in the rate of coronary artery bypass graft surgery using the internal thoracic artery and aspirin prescription rate at discharge.
