[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] L&K Biomed, a developer of spinal implants, announced on the 27th that it has signed a joint research and development contract with American neurosurgeon Bratislav Velimirovic, M.D., for Cervical MIS Screw instruments and surgical techniques for minimally invasive surgery.
Previously, L&K Biomed developed the world's first minimally invasive cervical screw in 2016 and received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Through joint research and development, the surgical techniques and instruments have also been completed, and the product is set for full-scale launch.
A company representative stated, "We have established a full product lineup for the cervical spine sector, including screws, cages, and plates," and added, "By developing surgical techniques that can integrate the world's first minimally invasive cervical screw with robotic surgery, we plan to newly target the cervical surgery market."
Due to modern stress, overwork, tension, and increased use of computers and smart devices, the number of patients with cervical spine disorders is rising. The cervical surgery market in the United States is estimated to be worth approximately 3 trillion KRW.
In spinal implant surgery, minimally invasive surgery has shorter operation times and lower infection risks compared to open surgery. The market size is rapidly growing every year, increasing the demand for products related to minimally invasive surgery.
