8 COVID-19 Cases in Gyeongnam, 2-Day Trip to Naju and Hwasun in Jeonnam... Contact Tracing Underway

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] It has been revealed that eight confirmed COVID-19 patients from Gyeongnam traveled for a 1-night, 2-day trip to Naju and Hwasun in Jeonnam, prompting health authorities to trace their movements and contacts.

However, concerns about local transmission are growing as these individuals were only confirmed positive a week after visiting the golf courses.

According to health authorities on the 26th, from the 18th to the 19th of this month, eight people including the couple confirmed as cases 202 and 203 from Gyeongnam visited Naju Happiness CC and Hwasun CC.

Some of them were found to have visited a hongeo (fermented skate) restaurant in Naju and stayed at a hotel in the Naju area.

Local governments and health authorities are identifying additional movements and contacts of these individuals.

They have also sent text messages recommending diagnostic testing to local residents based on the confirmed movement paths.

However, since a week has passed since their visit to Hwasun and Naju, epidemiological investigations and quarantine efforts are facing difficulties.

A Jeonnam provincial official stated, "Although the confirmed cases were reported to the relevant cities and counties immediately after the positive test, there is a one-week gap from the visit date, making the situation difficult," adding, "We are consulting with the cities and counties to trace movements and contacts to prevent local transmission."
