[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT's artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be provided as lifestyle services such as healthcare and smart mirrors through collaboration with small and venture companies.
On the 26th, KT held a signing ceremony with the participating companies of the 'SMART X-LAB 7th' at the Startup Branch located in COEX, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in collaboration with the Incheon Creative Economy Innovation Center. SMART X-LAB is an ICT startup commercialization program sponsored by KT since 2017 and hosted by the Incheon Innovation Center. Companies selected through evaluation receive business funding and various business opportunities through performance sharing sessions.
The 7th SMART X-LAB called for applications from small and venture companies capable of discovering business items by utilizing and linking KT's cloud AI platform 'GiGA Genie Inside' in July. After document screening and business item presentations, three companies were selected: ITI Technology Co., Ltd., BLT Co., Ltd., and Hexacon Co., Ltd.
The selected companies will receive up to 30 million KRW in business funds and technical support for applying GiGA Genie Inside for four months until the end of this year from KT. GiGA Genie Inside is a cloud AI platform that can be embedded in apps or devices to use GiGA Genie AI services such as voice recognition. KT expects to benefit from the expansion of the AI ecosystem as the SMART X-LAB 7th companies apply GiGA Genie AI technology to healthcare, smart mirrors, SNS social apps, and more.
Kim Chae-hee, Executive Director of KT AI/Big Data Business Division, said, "We hope that the AI healthcare and smart mirrors presented by the companies selected for SMART X-LAB 7th based on GiGA Genie Inside will become AI services that make customers' lives more convenient and safe," adding, "KT will make multifaceted efforts to become a national company that grows together with small and venture companies."
