Pilot Service at New Headquarters Building for Move-in Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Glovis is partnering with an autonomous driving robot developer to promote unmanned logistics and lifestyle-oriented logistics services. Hyundai Glovis announced on the 26th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cooperation on autonomous mobile robot lifestyle logistics services with the robot development company 'Twinny.'
Founded in 2015, Twinny is a startup promoting the commercialization of robots equipped with self-developed autonomous driving software. It possesses high-performance autonomous driving technology and patents that enable robots to autonomously determine their location and efficiently transport cargo to destinations within complex indoor environments.
Under the agreement, Hyundai Glovis plans to develop lifestyle-oriented logistics services closely connected to daily life by utilizing the autonomous driving robots developed by Twinny. The autonomous logistics robots use various sensors and data to autonomously identify their location and safely deliver items to destinations even in complex indoor environments such as homes and offices.
To this end, Hyundai Glovis will establish an indoor contactless secure delivery platform using robots. Consumers can easily specify delivery locations and times through a smartphone application, and after the robot completes the delivery, they can receive the items following a simple authentication process.
As the first step, Hyundai Glovis will apply the robot logistics service in its new headquarters, scheduled to move in the first half of next year. The robots introduced within the company measure 61 cm in width, 78 cm in depth, and 110 cm in height, and can carry products weighing up to 60 kg. Equipped with autonomous driving functions using ultrasonic sensors and dynamic obstacle avoidance functions based on proprietary algorithms, the robots can navigate without collisions even in crowded or obstacle-filled environments.
The first mission of the autonomous driving robots introduced at Hyundai Glovis will be the delivery of parcels and mail. When parcels and mail arrive at the storage room inside the headquarters, the robots autonomously take the elevator and deliver them to employees. Additionally, when employees purchase beverages via their smartphones from their workstations, the robots accurately deliver the orders to the respective employees.
Hyundai Glovis will verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the service operation with its employees and collect data to apply it to actual business. After completing technology verification and business feasibility review at the new headquarters, Hyundai Glovis plans to jointly promote robot-based lifestyle logistics services targeting urban apartments and offices with Twinny.
A Hyundai Glovis official said, "As consumers' preference for contactless services increases, we are actively promoting logistics services using autonomous driving robots," adding, "The introduction of indoor delivery robots will enhance customers' convenience in daily life."
