SSG.com and Chosun Hotel Launch 'Hogyeongjeon' Chinese Restaurant Jjajang and Jjamppong Meal Kits

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] SSG.com is joining hands with Shinsegae Chosun Hotel to strengthen its meal kit product lineup.

On the 26th, SSG.com announced that it will sequentially sell ‘Chosun Hotel Uni Jjajang’ and ‘Chosun Hotel Samseon Jjamppong,’ meal kits made from signature dishes of ‘Hogyeongjeon,’ a Cantonese Chinese restaurant operated by Shinsegae Chosun Hotel.

Starting from the 27th, SSG.com will exclusively sell ‘Chosun Hotel Uni Jjajang,’ which contains the cooking know-how of a luxury hotel chef, for 7,900 KRW for two servings. ‘Chosun Hotel Samseon Jjamppong’ will be available from the 2nd of next month at 12,900 KRW for two servings.

The strength of the newly released Chosun Hotel meal kits lies in their ‘clean taste without being overpowering.’ To preserve the unique luxurious yet neat flavor of Chosun Hotel, a head chef with 27 years of experience participated in the meal kit product development for six months.

For ‘Chosun Hotel Uni Jjajang,’ the focus was on enhancing texture by finely chopping pork and onions, in line with the Chinese word ‘uni,’ which means ‘mincing and crushing meat.’ These ingredients were stir-fried over high heat with a special chunjang sauce made from Hogyeongjeon’s recipe to recreate the flavor of a high-end Chinese restaurant. The fresh noodle strands were made using a flour and potato starch blend ratio developed by Hogyeongjeon to add a soft texture.

Similarly, ‘Chosun Hotel Samseon Jjamppong’ achieved a clean taste by using red pepper powder instead of coloring agents to prevent excessive oil from floating on the broth. The meal kit is richly packed with freshly prepared shrimp, squid, scallops, and various seafood, along with shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and bok choy, perfectly capturing the original flavor.

The launch of the Chosun Hotel meal kits began after SSG.com proposed collaboration with Shinsegae Chosun Hotel on developing meal kits and other convenient food products since the second half of last year. The project gained momentum early this year as the growth of meal kits coincided with the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Choi Taek-won, Head of Sales at SSG.com, said, “To further solidify our leading position in the increasingly competitive online grocery market, we will continuously strengthen our product capabilities. We plan to focus especially on meal kits and HMR categories that can be conveniently cooked and eaten anytime, anywhere, aiming to differentiate ourselves from competitors.”

Meanwhile, to celebrate the launch of the Chosun Hotel meal kits, SSG.com will hold a special promotion starting on the 27th. The first 1,000 new customers will be able to purchase the ‘Chosun Hotel Uni Jjajang’ product for 1,000 KRW. For all existing customers, a ‘My Own Purchase Review Event’ will be held until September 2nd, where customers who purchase Chosun Hotel meal kits and write reviews will receive 1,000 SSG Money.
