[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Kia Motors announced on the 25th that it will launch a dedicated product for the first time in Korea that extends the warranty period for high-voltage batteries for commercial electric vehicle customers in partnership with Hyundai Capital. Customers who purchase commercial electric vehicles such as the Niro EV, Soul EV, and Bongo EV through Hyundai Capital's financial installment plan are eligible to subscribe.

Kia prepared this product to reduce the repair cost burden of high-voltage batteries for commercial electric vehicles, considering the longer driving distances typical of commercial vehicles compared to regular vehicles.

This product operates as a 'distance-based single option.' Customers can choose between two options depending on the extension conditions by vehicle model. Specifically, for commercial taxi (Niro, Soul) EV vehicles, based on the existing warranty condition of 200,000 km (warranty period of 10 years), customers can select a product that extends the warranty by 100,000 km to a total of 300,000 km (2.75 million KRW) or a product that extends it by 200,000 km to a total of 400,000 km (4.15 million KRW).

For commercial Bongo EV vehicles, two options are available: a product that extends the existing warranty condition of 120,000 km (warranty period of 8 years) by 80,000 km to a total of 200,000 km (2.3 million KRW) and a product that extends it by 120,000 km to a total of 240,000 km (2.85 million KRW).

For example, a customer who purchased a commercial Niro EV vehicle using Hyundai Capital's installment product and additionally subscribes to the 100,000 km extension option can replace and repair the battery up to 300,000 km of driving after the original 200,000 km warranty period ends, at the product price of 2.75 million KRW.

Furthermore, customers who purchased vehicles in the past (vehicles delivered after August 25, 2019) using Hyundai Capital's installment product are also eligible to subscribe to this product.

A Kia Motors official said, "Through the launch of this extended warranty product for electric vehicle high-voltage batteries, we aimed to reduce the repair cost burden for commercial electric vehicle customers and increase their satisfaction."
