Daegu City Clarifies Through Statement: "Chinese Resident of Ulsan Buk-gu Has No History of Visiting Daegu"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Recently, regarding a Chinese national who was confirmed to have COVID-19 during the quarantine process upon entering China after departing through Daegu International Airport, some media outlets reported this person as a 'Daegu-origin COVID-19 confirmed case.' In response, the Daegu city government has actively clarified the situation.
On the 24th, Daegu city issued a clarification stating, "The Chinese national who was confirmed positive during the quarantine upon entering China arrived at Daegu International Airport at 6:16 AM on August 20th using a friend's vehicle, and boarded the plane after passing through the boarding gate at 9:36 AM," emphasizing, "There was no prior visit history to Daegu."
The fact that the Chinese national who departed through Daegu International Airport on that day tested positive during quarantine at Yanji (延吉, Yeon-gil), Jilin Province, China, was notified to Daegu city on the 21st through the Daegu Airport branch office. Daegu city explained that this information was immediately reported to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.
Following an on-site epidemiological investigation conducted by Daegu city on the 22nd, it was confirmed that the Chinese individual, Mr. A, resides in Buk-gu, Ulsan, and had departed for Yanji Airport in China on the 20th with a negative COVID-19 test certificate.
Daegu city stated, "By reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage inside the airport according to the confirmed case's movement, and contacting the accompanying person, it was confirmed that the confirmed case arrived in Daegu on the same day to depart for China using the accompanying person's vehicle, and had no prior visits to Daegu."
They added, "The flight to Yanji, China on the 20th was a special flight, and only one flight route to overseas destinations operated that day. All passengers on the flight were identified as Chinese nationals, and CCTV review confirmed no contact with unspecified individuals."
A Daegu city official added, "Four airport staff members who possibly had contact with the confirmed case were tested (all negative), and disinfection and sanitation within the airport were fully completed."
Meanwhile, on the 22nd, domestic media outlets uniformly reported, citing a correspondent report from the Chinese local internet media (Pengpai), that "an asymptomatic COVID-19 case originating from Daegu was detected in Yanji, Jilin Province, China."
