Kim Jong-in: "The 2nd Disaster Relief Fund Must Go to Those Who Truly Need It"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Kim Jong-in, Emergency Committee Chairman of the United Future Party, emphasized that the second disaster relief fund should "go to those who really need it."

After the emergency meeting on COVID-19 ended that afternoon, Chairman Kim told reporters, "The government will assess how much impact the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) situation has on the economy during its new spread," emphasizing this point.

He added, "In cases such as small business owners, self-employed workers, and manufacturing workers who have been hit hardest by COVID-19, government finances and disaster relief funds are necessary from the perspective of how to resolve unemployment," and stressed, "There must be a judgment from government authorities regarding the economic situation."

Floor Leader Joo Ho-young commented on the medical sector strike, saying, "The United Future Party plans to actively intervene to mediate and resolve the strike withdrawal and the government's reckless push without agreement with the Korean Medical Association (KMA)."

Responding to reporters' questions about the Democratic Party of Korea's claim that the United Future Party should reform in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Floor Leader Joo said, "Don't they know they have no responsibility?" and criticized, "It has nothing to do with the United Future Party. When in a tight spot, the government tries to shift responsibility to the United Future Party."

The United Future Party also supported the formulation of the 4th supplementary budget bill. Policy Committee Chairman Lee Jong-bae told reporters after the meeting, "Support measures are needed for those affected by COVID-19," and emphasized, "The 4th supplementary budget should be limited to support funds for overcoming COVID-19 damage and flood damage relief."
