[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The "11th World Trade Organization (WTO) Moot Court Competition," jointly hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the International Economic Law Association, and sponsored by Seoul National University School of Law, was held online on the 19th.
The WTO Moot Court Competition is the most prestigious moot court competition related to trade law in Korea. It has been held annually since 2010.
This year's competition focused on whether an undervalued currency constitutes a prohibited subsidy under the WTO Agreement.
A total of 13 teams of undergraduate and graduate students from Korea participated. Experts in trade law from academia, law firms, and government served as judges.
As a result of the competition, the 'SNU Vis Moot Skubi' team from Seoul National University School of Law took first place and received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award.
The second place went to the 'SRIL' team, a joint team from Korea University Graduate School and Hongik University. The two teams tied for third place were 'ALAVU' from Seoul National University School of Law and 'Soli Deo Gloria' from Handong University.
An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "We plan to continue supporting the WTO Moot Court Competition so that students can broaden their understanding of trade law and explore career paths in related fields."
