[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] A research team led by Professor Sangshin Lee from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Kwangwoon University, in collaboration with Dr. Deokyong Choi from the Australian National University, has successfully developed an ultrathin multifunctional optical integrated circuit based on a metasurface stacked planar lens. This achievement realizes previously bulky optical components in an ultrathin form, and it is expected to be applicable to LiDAR used in autonomous vehicles, the Internet of Things, and intelligent drones. Professor Lee explained, "The significance lies in establishing a foundation to implement existing bulky imaging, optical communication, optical sensor, and display-related optical components as a single ultrathin high-density optical integrated circuit through the development of multifunctional metasurface stacked structure technology."
