[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung is enhancing its security technology capabilities while strengthening collaboration with the industry and users to increase user trust.

Hwang Yong-ho, Executive Director and Head of the Security Team at Samsung Research, announced during the keynote speech at the 4th Samsung Security Technology Forum (SSTF), held online on the 18th, that a unified site for product-specific reporting channels will be launched. The Samsung Security Technology Forum is an annual event hosted by Samsung Electronics since 2017 to expand the software base in the security technology field and nurture talent.

In his keynote speech titled "Security and Privacy Protection for a Safe User Experience," Executive Director Hwang said, "As electronic devices such as smartphones combine with AI technology, sensitive information such as users' financial, health, and preference data is increasingly generated on devices," adding, "Security assurance is crucial to protect personal information."

He continued, "To protect personal information so that users do not worry, strong security must be guaranteed from the device itself, and users must be able to use it conveniently," explaining that Samsung continuously addresses and researches security issues throughout the entire process from product design to usage.

Executive Director Hwang also stated, "Strong security cannot be achieved solely by Samsung working hard internally," and added, "We are unifying the security-related sites that were previously managed separately by each business division to allow external parties to report security issues for each product." He further mentioned that they are reviewing a specific schedule to open the reporting site within this year.

Samsung is also strengthening cooperation with external companies to build a security technology ecosystem. Executive Director Hwang said, "Samsung has applied to join the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF) under Linux," adding, "We will continuously strive to create a better software ecosystem by sharing, discussing, and developing security cases with advanced overseas companies such as Microsoft and Google."

Currently, 15 companies including Google, Microsoft, Intel, and IBM participate in OpenSSF, and Samsung is in the process of joining. OpenSSF aims to discover, analyze, and enhance the security of open-source vulnerabilities.
