Domestic Digital Forensics Market Growth Trend... 'KDFT Korea Digital Forensics Technology Standards Co., Ltd.' Provides Smoking Gun Evidence Through Technology

Recently, digital forensics has been utilized in securing evidence for various incidents and accidents, such as the Uiamho ship capsizing accident and 'molka crimes,' drawing attention from the media and various sectors to digital forensic techniques.

Digital forensics is defined as the technique of collecting, recovering, and analyzing information stored on various digital devices such as mobile phones, black boxes, and PCs to prove criminal suspicion or obtain evidence. Recently, digital forensic techniques have also been applied in corporate audits and accounting audits, and the market potential in these fields is gradually increasing.

According to the National Digital Forensic Center (NDFC) of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, the number of requests for digital evidence analysis support, which was 307 cases in 2008, increased to 9,737 cases in 2016, showing an increase of more than 30 times in 10 years.

With the explosive growth in domestic demand for digital forensics, interest is growing in 'KDFT Korea Digital Forensic Technology Standard Institute Co., Ltd.' (hereinafter KDFT), a digital forensic specialized company that leads the domestic digital forensic market by providing smoking guns (decisive evidence) for various cases based on outstanding technology and diverse references, and conducting internal digital forensic audits and compliance diagnostics.

For digital evidence obtained through digital forensics to have legal effect, a logical and systematic evidence collection process is important. The qualifications of evidence analysts are also considered essential elements that a digital forensic specialized company must possess.

Since pioneering the domestic digital forensic field in 2008 and enhancing the expertise of the technology, KDFT is led by CEO Choi Gyu-jong, one of only two 'special appraisers' registered with the Supreme Court in Korea. The digital forensic team, composed of IT experts with over 30 years of experience, provides customized solution services based on the five principles of digital forensics (principle of legitimacy, principle of integrity, principle of timeliness, principle of linked storage, and principle of reproducibility). In addition, KDFT has solidified trust across various sectors by cooperating with leading domestic companies and government agencies in digital forensic investigations.

KDFT's social contribution activities providing digital forensic technology are also notable. CEO Choi Gyu-jong donated his digital forensic expertise free of charge to recover mobile phone data of victims in the Sewol ferry disaster, providing the smoking gun for uncovering the truth.

Regarding the positive influence continued through digital forensic talent donation in national disaster situations, CEO Choi said, “I believe providing smoking guns through digital forensics offers a path to alleviate grievances for someone who is wronged, even if not 100%, at least to some extent.” He added, “Going forward, based on KDFT’s unique digital forensic technology, we will provide optimized customized solutions to companies and continue to contribute to social welfare activities.”
