KCI Wins 800 Million KRW Cambodia Infrastructure Project... "Government Support Helped"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] KC&I, which received support from the 'Engineering Export Competitiveness Enhancement Support Project' jointly promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Engineering Association, announced that it has won a design contract.

According to the Engineering Association on the 15th, KC&I, which participated in last year's Export Competitiveness Enhancement Support Project, recently won the 'Cambodia Lifeline Road Connection Enhancement Project' commissioned by the Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport. The contract amount is 805 million KRW (USD 679,117).

The Export Competitiveness Enhancement Support Project refers to a program that supports part of the costs such as outsourcing services, local visits, and inviting related personnel required for engineering companies to carry out overseas engineering feasibility study projects.

This project is a detailed design task for building transportation infrastructure and renovating road facilities in the northeastern region of Cambodia. It is expected to contribute to improving living conditions and enhancing trade with neighboring countries through the improvement of deteriorated roads and the construction of safety facilities.

The design is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, and the construction bidding is expected to take place next year.

A project official from the company stated, "Effective government support was very helpful in winning this project," and added, "Active government support is essential to revitalize the overseas expansion of small and medium-sized enterprises."

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to continuously promote the overseas expansion of companies by supporting engineering companies' overseas entry and securing project experience, according to the 'Engineering Industry Innovation Strategy' announced last May.

In particular, it plans to target overseas expansion in high value-added areas such as basic design, project management (PM), and operation and maintenance (O&M).
