Demand for Luxury Hotel Beds at Home Increases
From Speaker-Embedded Frames to Body-Shaped Springs
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] #. Gu Jihyun (pseudonym), who lives in Pyeongchang-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, recently enjoyed a holiday with her husband at a hotel where she was able to get a good night's sleep for the first time in a while. While the hotel's unique bedding had some effect, Gu thought the comfortable bed she lay on played a major role, so she inquired about the bed at the front desk. After returning home, Gu discarded the bed she had purchased years ago as part of her wedding trousseau and visited the store of the recommended brand to buy a new bed. Although the price was higher than expected, she briefly hesitated but decided to purchase it, saying, "I thought it was an investment worth making for a good night's sleep."
Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the number of people enjoying vacations at home has increased, leading to growing interest in premium beds for comfortable sleep.
According to the furniture industry on the 15th, sales of premium beds and mattresses increased in the first half of this year.
In the case of Simmons, the Beautyrest Black, introduced in 2016, has steadily gained popularity and is leading the premium bed market. In 2018, it recorded sales of 30 billion won, proving its popularity. It is known that this product is used in the Royal Suite rooms at Signiel Seoul and all rooms at JW Marriott Seoul.
Ace Bed introduced frames that can recreate the luxurious interior of hotels at home along with mattresses optimized for a good night's sleep. The Royal Ace line applies Hybrid Z springs and the Five Zero system, which blocks noise, sagging, gaps, shifting, and shaking, as well as a two-mattress system, providing a comfortable and sturdy structure.
Sealy Bed has strengthened sales of its premium line Exquisite, which features titanium springs patented in the United States. According to Sealy, the springs provide different support effects for each body part, inducing the optimal sleeping posture.
Tempur's collaboration mattress Rikke, which has built-in speakers from the luxury audio brand Bang & Olufsen, is receiving a good response. When lying on the bed, Bang & Olufsen's soundbar system produces grand and immersive sound effects. The outer part of the bed frame's headboard is made of metal, creating a sense of unity with the speakers while also producing a simple design effect.
An industry insider said, "As interest in good sleep increases due to tiring daily life, the number of customers seeking premium beds is increasing," adding, "In the growing sleeponomics market, various premium beds with enhanced functions and higher prices will continue to be released."
