Gangdong-gu Operates 'Online Dotori Market' to Support Farmers Affected by COVID-19

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hoon) will hold the agricultural products direct transaction market, "Online Gangdong Dotori Market," from July to September to help farmers struggling due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and to provide consumers with excellent food products.

The Gangdong Dotori Market is an abbreviation of "Gangdong-gu urban farmers and Saturday together, an eco-friendly market with stories," and it is a place for urban-rural coexistence exchange held at Sangil-dong Eoulmadang on the first and third Saturdays of every month.

This year, due to the impact of COVID-19, it will be operated online in a non-face-to-face manner.

Gangdong-gu produced promotional leaflets to promote the sales of agricultural and specialty products and pioneered online sales channels using the district office website and SNS.

Through the promotional materials posted online for agricultural and specialty products, consumers can directly order desired products from the sellers’ websites or by phone and pay via bank transfer.

The online Dotori Market allows easy direct transactions of excellent agricultural and specialty products from eco-friendly local food producers as well as farmers from all over the country, including Yeonggwang, Gapyeong, Hongseong, Miryang, Goheung, and Buan.

The items sold include more than 40 kinds of various agricultural products directly produced by farmers, such as pesticide-free pumpkins, pine nuts, eggs, garlic, dried seafood, and deodeok (Codonopsis lanceolata).

Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “We planned the online Dotori Market to help farmers who are having a hard time due to blocked sales channels caused by COVID-19. We hope it will be an opportunity to breathe vitality into both farmers by pioneering new sales channels and residents by providing safe food.”

The agricultural and specialty products sold at the Online Gangdong Dotori Market can be checked through the Gangdong-gu Office website (Gangdong News) or promotional materials available at the district office civil service center and community service centers.
