[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] On the 14th, Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, experienced a mishap during a live fundraising broadcast for flood victims when he could not find the donation envelope in his jacket pocket.

That afternoon, Lee appeared on KBS 1TV's "Special Live Broadcast: Overcoming Flood Damage Together." The program is a fundraising broadcast to help victims affected by the record-breaking heavy rains that began last month.

During the broadcast, Lee explained, "I visited two places, Anseong and Cheorwon, where flooding was severe and the water was nearly as high as a person's height. Home appliances and clothes were submerged in muddy water, and recovery efforts are underway." He added, "Cheorwon is inside the Military Demarcation Line, so soldiers are removing landmines that have been washed away."

He continued, "Our people have a good tradition of solidarity in difficult times. We overcame COVID-19 early because we did it together. It is important to participate together in overcoming this disaster as well, and both the party and the government will join in."

The host then asked Lee to put the donation envelope into the donation box. Following the host’s guidance, Lee put his hand into the inside pocket of his suit jacket to place the prepared donation envelope into the box but was unable to find the envelope in time.

Later, after the turns of Park Cha-woon, president of the Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association, and Sim Sang-jung, leader of the Justice Party, Lee appeared again.

Lee said, "In difficult times, we will join together to create good deeds to overcome challenges," and took the envelope out of the right inside pocket of his jacket and placed it into the donation box.
