[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the afternoon of the 7th at around 8:29 PM, a landslide occurred on the mountain behind a village in Osan-myeon, Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, burying five houses and resulting in the deaths of five residents. The police investigating the incident conducted a search and seizure of the offices of the client and construction company related to the road expansion project near the landslide site.
According to the Gokseong Police Station in Jeollanam-do on the 14th, the police searched four offices related to the National Road No. 15 expansion project, including the Jeollanam-do Road Management Office (client), the construction company headquarters, the site office, and the supervision company.
The police reportedly secured materials related to the road expansion project near the landslide site through the search and seizure.
Initially, the Jeollanam-do Road Management Office claimed that the landslide occurred first, causing the soil from the road construction site to collapse.
Near the landslide site, the National Road No. 15 expansion project was underway. Soil buried in the valley for road expansion at the construction site also collapsed, and blasting had been conducted a few days before the landslide occurred.
To determine the cause of the landslide, the police formed a team of civil engineering experts and conducted an on-site investigation at the accident location on the 9th.
The police believe that the construction site likely had a significant impact on the landslide.
After analyzing the materials obtained through the search and seizure, if specific charges such as design defects, inadequate safety measures, or poor supervision are confirmed, the police plan to change the status of the related parties to suspects and formally book them.
