"Shipment Temporarily Halted Due to 'Vibration Controversy' Resumes After 2 Months
Transmission Control Logic Upgraded for Previously Shipped Customers
'Validation Completed... Shipment Resumes on the 19th'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Hyundai Motor Company will resume deliveries of the Genesis GV80 diesel model starting from the 19th. This comes about two months after temporarily halting deliveries in June due to vibration issues during driving in some vehicles.
According to industry sources on the 14th, Genesis sent notification messages around 3 p.m. to existing and waiting customers of the GV80 diesel model, stating, "We have completed the validation of the measures addressing the vibration issue in some GV80 diesel vehicles and plan to resume deliveries from the 19th." For already delivered GV80 diesel models, a 'transmission control logic upgrade' will be implemented.
Earlier, Hyundai Motor Company temporarily suspended deliveries of the Genesis GV80 diesel model in June after engine vibration defects surfaced. At that time, they explained, "Intermittent vibration was detected in some GV80 diesel vehicles. This phenomenon occurs depending on the accumulation of carbon inside the engine when driving for extended periods at low RPM and is unrelated to safety." They also added that they were preparing solutions such as control logic program updates and conducting related validation tests.
Hyundai also extended the warranty period for major engine components of all GV80 diesel vehicles delivered by June 11 from the original '5 years or 100,000 km' to '10 years or 200,000 km.'
Since then, Hyundai has completed full validation through real vehicle driving tests, simulations, and engine component durability tests for the model. The transmission control logic upgrade controls the transmission RPM in specific sections to create an environment where carbon inside the engine can be effectively removed.
Accordingly, Hyundai resumed production of the GV80 diesel model, which had stopped repeatedly five days after the delivery suspension, starting from the previous day.
Additionally, Hyundai has prepared a customer care program for customers whose deliveries were delayed from the original June schedule. First, the Genesis Experience (GV80, G80) program will be operated until the GV80 diesel model is delivered. Furthermore, customers who receive their vehicles will be provided with the Genesis Body Care Service Package I free of charge. The coverage of the Body Care Package includes the body, windshield, and tires, with a duration of 1 year or 20,000 km.
