Yongin City, with a Surge of COVID-19 Cases, to Provide Free Diagnostic Tests for Asymptomatic Patients

[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will fully support diagnostic testing fees for asymptomatic individuals suspected of having COVID-19.

On the 14th, Mayor Baek Gun-gi held an emergency meeting in the mayor's office following the occurrence of more than 20 confirmed cases since the 10th, centered around Woori Jeil Church in Giheung-gu, and decided accordingly.

Mayor Baek also stated, "We plan to conduct thorough diagnostic testing for worshippers who attended services at Woori Jeil Church and strictly manage those in self-quarantine," adding, "We will promptly disclose the movement paths visited by confirmed cases to citizens, and each district office should actively cooperate in investigating these paths using CCTV and other means."

Accordingly, Yongin City will offer free diagnostic testing by appointment through screening clinics at the health centers of the three district offices.

Additionally, a ban on gatherings has been imposed on Woori Jeil Church, where the cluster infection occurred, until the 28th, and a gathering restriction order has been issued for all 754 churches in the jurisdiction as a preventive measure.

The city plans to extend the order period depending on the trend of further spread.

Previously, from the 2nd to the 9th, the city conducted diagnostic tests on 600 people who attended services at the church. Among them, 142 tested negative but have entered self-quarantine as a preventive measure.

However, the city has decided to open local daycare centers scheduled to open on the 18th, subject to disinfection and sterilization. But in Sanghyeon 2-dong, Suji-gu, and Bojeong-dong, Giheung-gu, where multiple confirmed cases have occurred, the city will consult with daycare center officials to consider postponing the opening.

Also, considering residents' concerns as nine confirmed cases have been reported at Jukjeon High School and Daegi High School in Suji-gu as of today, the city will coordinate with the education office to recommend that local academies voluntarily close.

Mayor Baek emphasized, "Protecting citizens' safety from COVID-19 is the top priority," and urged, "To prevent further spread, public officials should take responsibility and respond with full efforts by each department."
