Bucheon Urban Corporation to Export Bucheon-style Smart Transportation Overseas

Participation in the 'Ulaanbaatar Mobility Platform Preliminary Feasibility Study' Service

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon Urban Corporation in Gyeonggi Province is participating in the government's global cooperation project to expand the Korean-style smart city.

The corporation announced on the 14th that it signed a service contract for the "Pre-feasibility Study of the Basic Plan for the Ulaanbaatar Smart Mobility Platform in Mongolia," selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "2020 K-City Network Global Cooperation Program," and will embark on creating an overseas smart city for the first time among local public enterprises.

The K-City Network Global Cooperation Program is a project conducted jointly with foreign governments to discover smart city cooperation projects and share development experience and knowledge. During the application period earlier this year, 80 applications were received from 23 countries, and 12 projects from 11 countries were finally selected.

The corporation will jointly participate in the "Basic Plan and Pre-feasibility Study for the Smart Mobility Platform" service to solve traffic problems in Ulaanbaatar City, along with companies participating in Bucheon City's Smart City Challenge.

Through this service, the corporation plans to propose business models that can solve Ulaanbaatar City's traffic (mobility) issues, including various smart mobility (MaaS) services such as the parking sharing platform introduced in Bucheon City's Smart City Challenge.

Depending on the feasibility of the project, if the corporation participates in the main project, it is expected not only to open the way to export Bucheon City's smart transportation systems, such as the integrated operation platform for public and private parking lots, to Ulaanbaatar City but also to continuously spread to cities in several countries facing similar problems.

Prior to this, the corporation signed an MOU with Ulaanbaatar City in May 2018, together with Bucheon City, regarding cooperation in the development and operation of ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems), and in December last year, held a seminar in Ulaanbaatar presenting cases related to ITS and smart cities, striving to promote domestic ITS technology overseas.

Kim Dong-ho, president of Bucheon Urban Corporation, said, "We have focused on developing organizational capabilities by paying attention to social trend changes such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution," and added, "We expect that participation in this global project will raise the corporation's capabilities to the next level."
