According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 14th, a 39-year-old man who visited the home of a confirmed patient in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province on the 9th and 10th, was tested positive at Pohang Public Health Center on the 13th after showing fever symptoms and was admitted to Andong Medical Center. The man's spouse and two daughters tested negative.
Accordingly, as of midnight on the same day, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Gyeongbuk area increased to 1,370. This is the first community infection case in the Pohang area in 149 days since March 17.
In response to the occurrence of the 55th COVID-19 patient in the region on the same day, Pohang City held an emergency countermeasure meeting chaired by Mayor Kangdeok Lee and entered a rapid response posture by preparing measures to strengthen social distancing along with thorough quarantine.
Mayor Kangdeok Lee said, "With the vacation season, there is a high risk of exposure to COVID-19 cluster infections not only indoors where many unspecified people gather but also outdoors where activities have increased," and instructed related departments to prepare urgent special measures.
Meanwhile, in Daegu, no confirmed cases due to community infection have been reported for 42 consecutive days since the 4th of last month.
