[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] On the 14th, 103 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were identified in South Korea. This is the first time in 20 days since the 25th of last month (113 cases) that the daily number of confirmed cases has exceeded 100.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters for COVID-19, as of midnight on that day, there were 85 locally transmitted cases and 18 imported cases. The total number of confirmed cases increased to 14,873.
Among the locally transmitted cases, 38 were in Gyeonggi, 31 in Seoul, and 3 in Incheon, totaling 72 cases in the metropolitan area. Other cases included 5 in Busan, 3 in Chungnam, 2 in Gwangju, and 1 each in Ulsan, Gangwon, and Gyeongbuk.
Of the 18 imported cases, 7 were detected during quarantine, and the remaining 11 were confirmed in local communities. Six were Korean nationals and 12 were foreigners. The countries of origin for the imported cases were the United States with 9 cases, Iraq and Ghana with 2 cases each, and Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, Algeria, and Ethiopia with 1 case each.
The number of patients who have recovered and been released from isolation increased by 46 from the previous day to 13,863. No new deaths were reported, maintaining the cumulative death toll at 305.
