[Asia Economy Reporter Joeslgina] KT is presenting immersive content that allows viewers to experience the Independence Hall located in Cheonan through 360° VR video via SuperVR in celebration of Liberation Day. The feature enables users to virtually tour the Independence Hall with a sense of realism as if visiting the site in person from home.
On the 14th, KT announced that it launched this project in collaboration with Daelim Industrial, the construction company of the Independence Hall, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Liberation Day, reflect on its significance, and honor the noble spirit of the patriots who devoted their lives to the independence movement.
Daelim Industrial has created a 3D digital video of the exterior of the Independence Hall using photogrammetry technology and released it on their YouTube channel. Additionally, KT produced 360° VR videos of representative sculptures and interior exhibition halls of the Independence Hall with detailed explanations, which are available on SuperVR.
Users can explore the large sculpture "Gyeoreui Tap" (Tower of the Nation) at the plaza entrance of the Independence Hall, the commemorative hall "Gyeoreui Jip" (House of the Nation), known as the largest tiled roof house in East Asia, and the "Bulguir Hangugin Sang" (Indomitable Korean Statue) symbolizing the spirit of the patriots through the ‘Theme Travel’ menu on SuperVR. They can also virtually tour the interior exhibition halls that convey the hardships of Japanese colonial rule and the sacrifices and true meaning of the independence movement with a strong sense of presence. This content is also accessible via the SuperVR mobile app.
In addition to the Independence Hall, SuperVR offers various VR contents that allow users to reflect on the history of the Republic of Korea ahead of the three-day Liberation Day holiday. The ‘Korean History VR’ provides vivid historical narratives on over 30 era-specific themes from prehistoric times to modern history at related heritage sites. Notably, the episode on ‘Establishment of the Republic of Korea Government’ explains in an easy-to-understand manner the efforts for liberation and the establishment of a unified government and the process of founding the Republic of Korea government.
‘K-Travel,’ which offers immersive experiences of major domestic travel destinations, allows users to virtually visit historical sites such as the Baekje heritage sites in Gongju and Buyeo, the Silla heritage sites in Gyeongju, and tours of Seoul’s royal palaces, providing a satisfying way to ease the disappointment of a short holiday.
Kim Hun-bae, Executive Vice President and Head of KT’s Customer & Media Business Division, stated, “As the non-face-to-face era due to COVID-19 fully unfolds, the role and potential of immersive media are gradually expanding. We will actively introduce immersive media services and technologies not only in entertainment content but also in history and culture fields to enable customers to have diverse experiences.”
