The Korea Native Chicken Association (President Moon Jeong-jin) announced on the 14th that it will hold a "Discount Event to Promote Native Chicken Consumption" with E-Mart and Nonghyup Hanaro Mart until August 19.
According to the association, this event was jointly planned with E-Mart and Nonghyup Hanaro Mart to care for consumers' health, who are mentally and physically exhausted due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the rainy season, and to alleviate difficulties faced by native chicken farmers caused by sluggish consumption.
President Moon Jeong-jin said, "Due to COVID-19 and recent heavy rain damage, consumer sentiment has shrunk, and with heavy rainfall in July and August, native chicken consumption has decreased, causing difficulties for native chicken farmers. As consumption contraction is expected to worsen, we have prepared this native chicken consumption promotion event to coincide with 'Malbok,' the last of the three hottest periods of summer. We hope this event will help resolve the difficulties in the native chicken industry." He added, "We thank association member companies such as Harim, Olpum, Dasol, and Mokwoochon for participating in this event to revitalize the native chicken industry, and we will continue to take the lead together with large marts like E-Mart and Nonghyup Hanaro Mart for the health of the nation."
Furthermore, President Moon introduced, "In times like these with COVID-19, the three hottest summer days (Sambok), and the rainy season, native chicken, which helps boost immunity, is recorded to warm the spleen and stomach, improve digestion, strengthen bone marrow, and invigorate energy, making it a suitable food for restoring vitality in weakened individuals."
Representatives from E-Mart and Nonghyup Hanaro Mart said, "We will join the Korea Native Chicken Association in promoting native chicken consumption through the 'Discount Event to Promote Native Chicken Consumption.' We hope that this discount event, conducted at a level that consumers can feel, will help revitalize the sluggish native chicken market."
The "Discount Event to Promote Native Chicken Consumption" will be held at all E-Mart stores nationwide, and discounted native chicken products sold at Nonghyup Hanaro Mart can be checked on the Korea Native Chicken Association's website.
Meanwhile, native chicken has gained attention as a "delicious health food" in the post-COVID-19 era, attracting interest from young people and expert housewives who are captivated by its rich meat aroma and chewy texture. It is a high-protein food that can prevent various diseases and generate cell tissues, as well as being low in fat, calories, and cholesterol. It contains a large amount of collagen, which is beneficial for skin beauty, and unsaturated fatty acids and linoleic acid, which help suppress cancer occurrence and prevent heart disease and arteriosclerosis.
With growing interest in native chicken recipes after COVID-19, the Korea Native Chicken Association introduces various native chicken cooking recipes on its website.
